REVIEW | Yves Rocher Nutri-Repair Mask

dry damaged hair

When you hair is in desperate need of some TLC, using a hair mask can get your hair looking its best in no time at all, with little effort. The Yves Rocher Nutri-Repair Hair Mask is one of my absolute favourites when it comes to repair and moisturise my hair. It is enriched with Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter and it is specifically targeted for very dry or frizzy hair, both of which my hair tends to get sometimes.

The consistency of this mask is creamy and easy to apply on the hair. A little goes a long way and it smells heavenly. Even after you have washed, rinsed your hair and styled it, I find that the scent still lingers on just a little, which is amazing. Although some masks tend to weigh down my hair a bit, this one is nothing like that, especially since you only need just a little bit.

If you find this to be a problem for you too, try applying your mask before going in the shower on slightly damp hair. Then shampoo and condition as normal, to make sure that your hair is not being weighed down by products that are too rich. Using a deep cleansing shampoo such as this can also help get rid of product build up!

The products from Yves Rocher are all botanical so you get ingredients which are extracted from plants. For the Nutri-Repair Mask you get 150ml in a brown and green tub which will last you for months. It is also Silicone free, Paraben free and Colorant free, so really good for you! I like to use mine about every two weeks and it helps condition my dry ends, repair any damaged hair and control the frizz.

What is your go-to hair mask when you hair is in need of some love?

REVIEW | Summer Sweatproof and Longlasting Rimmel Duo

rimmel matte foundation

If the summer heat turns your face into a melting puddle of makeup that ends up sliding all over, then you need to get your hands on some good long-lasting products that will keep the shine in control and your makeup in place. These two products from Rimmel are my winning combo when I want my makeup to last for a long time and actually stay on my face. The two products are the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour Foundation and the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder.

I would not go as far as to say that the foundation lasts the 25-hour claim but it does last a good 12 hours on me and still look quite acceptable. The consistency of this foundation is not too thick so it can be applied for a more sheer coverage on the face. However, it is definitely one you can build up if you want a more full coverage foundation.

One thing to note is that if you have dry spots on your face, make sure to apply a good primer and moisturize properly otherwise it might cling to those drier areas a bit more.

I cannot say enough good things about the Stay Matte Powder! I always get the Transparent shade so that it is a perfect fit all year round and it is the perfect powder for all over the face and for touching up throughout the day. It helps keep my forehead from turning into a disco ball and is not too heavy on the skin. It can seriously take down the shine and it does not clog the pores.

One thing I note is that it does look best once it has set a bit on your face. So like around 30 minutes after you have applied it any of the powdery look will have sunk into the skin and will leave your skin looking naturally smooth.

What are your go-to sweatproof and long lasting products?

*Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored. Both products were purchased with my own money, unfortunately 😛 but I really love Rimmel!

REVIEW | Schwarzkopf Bonacure Deep Cleansing Shampoo

Schwarzkopf Bonacure Shampoo

If your hair is anything like mine then this shampoo will be a lifesaver for you! The Schwarzkopf Bonacure Scalp Therapy Deep Cleansing Shampoo helps you get rid of greasy roots and is perfect for a deep cleansing of your scalp.

My hair tends to get oilier at the roots but my ends are quite dry, so much so that sometimes I get split ends. However, the discovery of this shampoo has been a game-changer ever since I have added it to my hair care routine. I love using it once or twice a week if my hair is really greasy.

You just apply to wet hair as with any shampoo in the shower and start at the roots and work your way to the ends, to wash the hair. I then follow with my normal conditioner making sure to apply most of the product to the ends and use any remaining product upwards towards the roots.

The Schwarzkopf Deep Cleansing Shampoo leaves your scalp feeling refreshed, your hair light and not weighed down, and ready for perfect styling. After using this product, I always find that my hair takes longer to get oily and it helps it from getting frizzy, making it easier to straighten.

The product itself comes in this sleek white upside-down bottle, in which you get 200ml of a clear gel-like substance. It smells slightly minty which means your scalp feels really fresh and tingly.

Do you use a deep cleansing shampoo in your hair care routine?

TAG | Summer Lovin’

Essence, Catrice, Maybelline, Summer Lovin' Tag, Beauty Blabber, A Cosmetic Affair, Catrice, The Body Shop, Montagne Jeaunesse, H&M, Summer, nail polish, sheer lip colour, blog, ring, teal

Last month, the lovely Elaine from Blabber Beauty tagged me to do the Summer Lovin’ Tag and even though it took me a while, I have finally gotten round to answering the questions. If you have not checked out her blog yet, please head on over and have a look around. She writes about fashion, beauty and gives great tips.

  1. Summer lipstick you’re loving?

This is an easy one. I love a bit of a bright lip, whether it is in Summer or not and lately I have been reaching more and more for the Catrice Sheer Lip Colour from the Limited Collection called Hip Trip in the shade 02 Wheels on Fire. This as the name suggests, is a light wash of colour on the lips that is hydrating but gives a nice pop of colour without being drying or high maintenance.

  2. Summer nail polish you’re loving?

This Summer I have been mostly loving pink nail polishes. Here I chose two I have been wearing a lot which are both from Essence. They are in the shade 106 Free Hugs and 107 Naughty and Pink!

  3. Bikini you are loving this Summer?

I am not really comfortable wearing bikinis so I usually go for a swimsuit in either navy or black.

  4. Favourite Summer Frapuccino from Starbucks?

We don’t have Starbucks in Malta but for the alternative I choose the McDonalds Caramel Frappe and the KFC Oreo Krusher.

  5. Favourite Fake Tan?

I have not been fake tanning as much this Summer and have been using gradual tanners instead. However, when it comes to fake tan I also go for the St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse or Lotion.

  6. Favourite Summer song?

It is hard to choose just one song, but if I had to choose a song that I have been listening to over and over again it is Calvin Harris, Summer.

  7. Favourite Summer Accessory?

I do not wear lots of accessories. I always have to have on some earrings, usually studs and my ring which my bf gave me at the beginning of this year ♥. I also love my tree necklace or one that has my initial. As you can tell most of my accessories are in teal or turquoise, which are my favourite colours.

  8. Favourite summer fragrance/perfume?

I have fallen back in love with the Body Shop Eau de Toilette in Atlas Mountain Rose. It is the perfect combination of sweet and musky that is never too strong or sickly.

  9. Summer book you’re loving?

This summer I have been catching up on some needed reading. I have loved re-reading The Fault in our Stars by John Green and I am loving at the moment the trilogy called The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

  10. What are you most excited to do this Summer?

I know that the summer is now about half gone, but I am really looking forward to working on my dissertation which is due next year. I am also planning to write some good blog posts for you to read and to spend some fun time with my bf and my family.

P.S. of note that I have been loving this Summer are the Catrice Prime and Fine Mattifying Powder, the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and face masks, to name a few my H&M, Montagne Jeunesse and Anatomicals.

Please feel free to do this tag and link it in the comments below. Have a lovely Summer!

REVIEW | Avène Cold Cream Ultra Rich Cleansing Gel

Avene Cold Cream Ultra Cleansing Gel review shower gel eau thermal

Since I suffer from eczema and dry skin, sometimes I like to make use of a shower wash that is more gentle and targeted for sensitive skin and lately I have been using the Av
ène Cold Cream Gel. As it says on the packaging this product is specifically targeted for dry to very dry sensitive skin, ergo my kind of skin!

The Avène Cold Cream Ultra Rich Cleansing Gel is a light consistency cleanser, that helps your skin replenish the moisture it needs without causing irritations. You get 250ml of a milky white textured gel that does not foam up too much, which may cause irritations, and can be used daily all over your body. It also comes in a very convenient squeezy tube that lets you get out as much product as you want.

It also contains the Avène Thermal Spring Water, orange oil and rosemary leaf oil. It has a light scent to it but I did not find it offensive in any way or irritating. I am very careful what kind of products I use on my skin as I can get very aggressive reactions and this product has not broken me out or caused any irritations whatsoever.

Which products would you recommend for sensitive skin?

NAILS | Serums & Oils

CND Shellac

If your nails and cuticles are looking a bit worse for wear, then a serum or a nail oil can really help strengthen and nourish your nails to get them back into shape. The following are the top products I love using when my nails are need of some TLC!

First off is the Essence Studio Nails Caring Nail Oil. I like using this when I have painted nails and feel like my cuticles need some extra nourishment. I don’t find it exceptionally good for stimulating nail growth, as it claims, but it helps dry, brittle cuticles look healthier and moisturized. The product can be applied using the doe-foot applicator and then massage gently into the cuticles.

Next is the CND Solar Oil. This smells amazingly of almonds and is a light nourishing oil that is just amazing at nourishing the nails and at turning dull nails back into bright healthy ones. Just apply on bare nails and cuticles or over nail polish and massage in if needed. It smells heavenly and a little goes a long way.

Lastly I love using the Nutra Nail Naturals Nail Growth Serum. A few months back I was having brittle nails that would start peeling every week even after using oils and filing. However after applying this product I saw results in around two weeks. My nails grew stronger and healthier, and they were not peeling any more. I use this religiously once a week and it does wonders at keeping my nails healthy. As an added bonus this helps nails grow faster, prevents peeling and chipping.

Cook With Me | Lemon Drizzle Cake

This week’s recipe is one of my favourites. It is a Lemon Drizzle Cake. Easy to make, looks great and tastes even better!

Here is what you need:
3 eggs
170gr Self-raising flour
170gr Caster sugar
170gr Butter
1 tsp Baking Powder
110gr Icing Sugar
2 Lemons

Here is how you make it:

Beat the Butter and Sugar together until they are well combined.

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture.

Sift in the flour and baking powder and add the zest of two lemons, until you get a nice even mixture. Pop into a tin and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 30 to 45 minutes.

Once the cake is done, pop out of the tin and set on a cooling rack for a couple minutes. In the meantime squeeze the juice of 2 lemons, I used 3 since they were a bit small, and add the icing sugar. Mix well until you do not have any lumps. Whilst the cake is still hot, skewer multiple times and then pour the lemon mixture all over.

What you are left with is a sticky lemon drizzled cake that is great to have with afternoon tea or any other time you want a sweet treat!
