TAG: Liebster Blog Award

The lovely and super talented Maya from Blue Jeans and Red Lipstick has tagged me to do the Liebster Blog Award, and since I have been a bit absent lately I thought what better way than to kick off the Summer Blogging with this tag post 🙂 Also do not forget to go follow Maya if you have not already, she does amazing nail posts!

So here it goes! Maya has come up with 11 questions for me to answer:

1. How long have you been blogging?
The first blog post on A Cosmetic Affair goes back to 2009 which was boringly called ‘First Post‘ and I had posted it on Valentine’s Day. I have been blogging ever since, so that’s 5 years of blogging 🙂

2. Is there one international blogger whose style you admire most, or aspire to be like?
I love Estée from EssieButton. I just love her quirky sense of style, how down to earth she is, and her fun vlogs with her boyfriend Aslan and her greyhound Reggie. Her beauty and skin care recommendations are always spot on and I just love everything about her 🙂

3. What are your top three Summer Essentials?
For me SPF is a must! So a good, oil free, matte sun block is an essential. Another essential for me is mascara. I can do bare face but if I don’t have mascara on I feel naked. In the absence of mascara, when there’s not other way around it, I have to curl my lashes, it just opens up my eyes and makes me look awake 🙂

4. Naked Face or Naked Nails?
I have just gone three weeks with nothing on my nails. They did need a break but it was mostly because I did not have time to do them during my exams. However, I did put makeup on for exams, so I guess that answers the question.

5. What are you reading at the moment? Or the last book you read?
At the moment I am reading ‘Looking for Alaska’ by John Green. I am already more than half way through it and it’s amazing. Before that I re-read ‘The Fault in Our Stars‘ also by John Green, in anticipation of the movie which is now in cinemas.

6. What’s your most recent beauty or fashion related purchase?
The latest beauty purchase was the Barry M Flawless Matte Finish Foundation. It is a sheer, light coverage foundation that is great for a lighter base in Summer.

7. How do you feel about fashion or beauty trends? A definite must, or more like guidelines that you might incorporate into your own style if you like them?
I am a bit of a snob when it comes to following fashion or beauty trends. If it works for me, I will incorporate it into my own style, but if not I won’t go out of my way to do so.

8. One thing you’re planning to do this Summer?
I plan to work on my thesis which is due next year. I also plan to blog more and to come up with new and interesting blog posts for your reading pleasure 🙂

9. Are you strict with yourself when it comes to scheduling your blogging, or do you prefer to blog as inspiration hits you?
I would like to get into scheduling posts so that it will be more consistent. However I also believe that you should write when inspiration hits you and that is what I do mostly.

10. One tip or trick you’ve learnt that helps you with your blogging?
Having a notepad close by, anywhere you go. You would be surprised how ideas come to you at the most random of times. It is important to jot down any idea that comes to you, when it comes to you, before you lose it forever. Believe me it has happened to me more times than I would like to admit!

11. If you had an unlimited budget, where would you love to travel to?
First I would love to visit the UK. I have never been and would love to visit sometime soon 🙂 There’s also Paris, which I would love to revisit, and I would really like to visit the US.

I would like to tag anyone who has not been tagged yet and feel free to post your link in the comments below.

Also check out the following bloggers which I love reading. Feel free to do the tag if you have not already.

What I’m Loving: May 2014

It is that time of the year again, exam time (save me). However, luckily it is also that time of the month (albeit a little late), Favourites time 🙂

If you have been following me on Instagram, then you will know that I have been doing the #100happydays challenge where I take a picture everyday of something or someone that has made my day happier. As you can imagine from a beauty junkie as myself, some of these shots are of products that I have been loving lately.

Firstly, I am currently madly in love with The Body Shop. During May I finished off my Moroccan Rose, Eau de Toilette, which smells really fresh and not too sweet. Since then I have gotten myself the newer version of this scent which is the Atlas Mountain Rose scent. I have also been loving The Body Shop, Honey and Oat 3-in-1 Scrub Mask. I use this mask once a week, sometimes twice, and it works wonders on my sensitive skin. It helps clear out any impurities and leaves the skin soft and hydrated. I am already halfway through this cute tub and have used it multiple times, so it’s well worth getting.

Next item in my May addictions is the Batiste Dry Shampoo. During May I was getting slightly greasy roots on second day hair, thus was on the lookout for a good dry shampoo to refresh my hair between washes and get some volume back into it. Enter the Batiste big & bouncy XXL volume Dry Shampoo. I am loving the different variants of the Batiste Dry Shampoos, not a big fan of the white powder but once I massage it into the roots, it all looks quite fresh. Also hair related, I have been loving the Schwarzkopf Gliss Hair Repair which has Liquid Keratin in it. I am currently trying to grow my hair out and haven’t gone to the hair dresser in what feels like forever. So I need to keep my hair in great shape and protected since I use lots of heat styling tools. This product works wonders and leaving the hair quite smooth as well, so that it is easier to smooth and work with after a wash.

Another May favourite was nails. During the month I tried the Rimmel Pro Matte Finish Top Coat which is amazing at giving you matte nails in any colour. I tried mine with the Inglot Nail Enamel in the 860 Red shade and loved it. I also was loving pink during the month and if you want some gorgeous pink nails, just try some of the Essence ones, I think I might have most of their pinks. The ones shown from Left to Right are; 104 Sweet as Candy, 106 Free Hugs, 107 Naughty and Pink, 108 Ultimate Pink and 110 Modern Romance.

Some random favourites are the Nivea Aqua Effect Face Mask for sensitive skin with honey, which was surprisingly good for Nivea masks. I also tried the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer, which no surprise I got in a shade that is a bit too dark for me at the moment. However, I liked the consistency and will surely get much use of it in the Summer months. I am also loving these chubby stick pencil type lip products. I have the Clinique Chubby Stick in 15 Pudgy Peony, the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain in Honey and the No 7 High Shine Lip Crayon in Delicate Pink.

Last but definitely not least, I am loving the La Roche Posay Toleraine Soothing Protective Skincare Face Cream. It has seriously changed my skin. It calms any irritations on my skin which is usually what leads to more breakouts for me. I love applying it at night or during the day if I am having a no makeup, relax at home, kind of day. This one is a little bit too shiny for under makeup, but I just got myself the combination to oily version so cannot wait to use it every day.

What have you been loving lately? Any common favourites? 🙂

Blogging Perks: Coccinelle Event

Last Saturday, Coccinelle Malta had an event in store for the launch of their Spring/Summer Collection 2014. More over, during the day they were giving people the opportunity to win 3 of their amazing bags!

All you had to do was go to the store and you would be given a key that could open a box that contained one of the gorgeous looking bags. The nice people at Coccinelle were also super nice, and sent us bloggers an invite with a key to the event. If you are anything close to a handbag junkie, you would have been in heaven in their wonderful store.

Unfortunately I was working all day Saturday and could not go with all the other Bloggers, however I managed to get there a little after 6pm to take my chance! Whilst not getting one their beautiful bags, Coccinelle gave me a small gift from their store, a scarf.

What is your go to handbag for everyday? Do you over pack? I sure do 🙂

POTW: Essence Nail Polish in Ultimate Pink

For this week’s Pink of the Week I am sharing with you this cute combination of pink and nude on my nails.

The pink is the Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in 108 Ultimate Pink, the nude shade is the Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in 162 Dare it Nude, and on the nude shade I applied a glitter topcoat which was a limited edition from Essence Glitter Topper from their Hugs & Kisses Collection in 01 More Than Words.

I am loving this combination of pink and nude on my nails. I also used the Sally Hansen’s Double Duty as my base coat and the Insta Dry as my top coat. The Essence polishes are dry really fast and the application is smooth and opaque. The glitter is also gorgeous and I love it on top of most shades.

What is your favourite combination on your nails?

The Body Shop Haul

I have been meaning to share this Body Shop Haul for a while but also wanted to try out some of the products out before mentioning them on my blog. So without further ado here is my haul from The Body Shop.

Firstly, I am a huge fan of The Body Shop, I love trying out new things from them and have a few staple products, I repurchase time and time again! This time I got my well loved Madagascan Vanilla Flower Body Mist which I love for everyday use and have repurchased multiple times. I know it is quite sweet but I just love vanilla, anyone who knows me can testify this!

Next I got the Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish. I was given a sample of this during the Christmas period and loved it. It’s not too abrasive but has small coarse particles in a thick gel polish that helps scrub gently your face.

I also got the Vitamin E eye cream. I had tried this product before but had forgotten how amazing this is. It helps reduce my dark circles and the puffiness around my eyes. The smell is not too noticeable, it sinks right in the skin but leaves your eye area moisturized and doesn’t irritate the eyes at all. It is also perfect to use under makeup.

Lastly, I got The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 02 Fair Matte. I can honestly say that this is all Essie Button‘s fault. She was raving about it and I just couldn’t resist trying it out. Btw if you haven’t checked her out already, get on it! The bronzer is a buttery soft consistency, blends gorgeously on the skin and doesn’t leave you looking streaky. I sometimes also use it on my eyes, in the crease, to give some slight definition. This is a matte bronzer, no shimmer at all and will suit all skin tones.

I have also posted reviews for The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost and The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist.

What are your favourite Body Shop products?

POTW: NYX Nail Polish in Sandal

This week’s Pink of the Week is the NYX Advanced Salon Formula Nail Polish in 224 Sandal. It is a bright fuchsia colour that I think is perfect to celebrate the beginning of Spring and will look great all year round.

I love the NYX nail polishes and this one did not disappoint. It applied opaque and was not streaky. I applied two coats of it together with the Sally Hansen’s Base and Top Coats. On my ring finger I applied one thin coat of the Essence Glitter Top Coat in It’s Just a Little Crush.

What is your favourite pink nail polish shade?

POTW: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart

This week’s Pink of the Week is the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in 090 Sweet Tart. I only have this shade from this range and I find it really moisturizing, creamy and pigmented.

The colour I have is a bright pink that transfers true to its colour on the lips. I find it best to apply some and pat into the lips as it is such a dense consistency. This lip butter is not the best for staying power, that is if you eat something it will most probably disappear from your lips, but I still like it a lot.

Have you tried any of the Revlon Lip Butters? What is your favourite moisturizing lip product?
